This site was created to provide the most complete collection possible of the images that catalog the history of the Carnival of New Orleans. Most images come from the author's personal collection, but many are borrowed from fellow friends and collectors, museums, and other resources.
Beyond just the aesthetic beauty of the pieces, the history that they tell is fascinating, reflecting both the politics and the whimsies of various eras. When viewed chronologically, one can follow political and cultural changes; the collection spans multiple wars, political upheavals, changing artistic tastes, and the transition from hand-created pieces to mass production.
It is my hope that collectors, historians, educators, or the merely curious are all able to find something that captures their interest in these pages.
If you have any interesting pieces of Mardi Gras history that you don't see cataloged here, please contact me. I am always interested in adding to the collection!
Thanks for visiting the site.
